A Very Fun Wedding at University Settlement Camp in Beacon, NY

Thomas and Brooke were getting married at a nearly untouched vintage summer camp in the base of Mount Beacon called University Settlement Camp. They reserved Game Rental Package #3 to entertain their nearest and dearest with giant lawn and board games for cocktail hour and the reception.

For their wedding they chose to include our 10’x20’ tent to house our four most popular boards games- Four Ball Billiards, Arches, Ricochet and Dutch Shuffleboard- as well as Gruyere (the giant maze game on the left), Giant Chess, Tipsy Timbers (aka giant Jenga), two sets of cornhole with drink and jacket stands, and Knock Out (giant dice).

We were thrilled to introduce our newest board game Sjoelen aka Dutch Shuffleboard! Ever present in pubs and markets across the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, Sjoelen (pronounced shoe-len) is believed to have been originally designed in the late 1800s. It is so popular that there are World Championships held every two years across Europe. Hundreds of players come out to compete for the coveted Sjoelen World Cup! (Definitely worth a Google.)

Many of the old hand crafted boards still exist and have been passed down through the family line. In honor of that tradition, we are thrilled to share our version of this heirloom board game. Our version of Dutch Shuffleboard is made with local cherry wood, features brass inlay, is finished with a blend of natural oils, and generously waxed so the pucks glide effortlessly down the board. It’s become a fast favorite in our lineup, and was a hit at Brooke and Thomas’ wedding!

We were lucky to get candid gaming shots of wedding guests in their cocktail hour element, many by the ever talented photographer Christine Ashburn. Enjoy!

“Upstate Jamboree was amazing. I did not have to stress at all about any aspect of their involvement in my wedding. When I arrived at my reception everything was set up perfectly and people were already playing games. My guests had so much fun and I got so many compliments. Thanks, Upstate Jamboree!!!”

“Bea and Tyler were phenomenal! We met them last weekend at our friends wedding in Beacon and we had a blast. They were so helpful with the new games, cheering the crowds on and helping with pointers. They are so down to earth. Such a unique way to have your guest socialize. My fiancé and I cannot wait to book them for our anniversary celebration next year! Tyler hand made most of the games and you can tell with the craftsmanship that he is truly talented and loves what he does. It was fun getting to know them too. Plus they wore the cutest little outfits! If you are looking for a way to spice up your cocktail hour and get a little friendly competition simply book these guys now, you won’t regret it!”

Freelance Web & Graphic Designer

Recently I began taking inventory of my life, recognizing the shifts I could make to lessen my personal consumption and impact. Since we spend a quarter of our lives working, that was certainly an area demanding attention. So I left retail and begin my career freelancing for small businesses whose higher purpose transcends profit.

I believe in employing my skills and energy to empower others working to create positive change in our world. I support too-swamped entrepreneurs by breathing life into their brands and websites, allowing them to focus on the important work at hand. At the same time, I get to nurture my own entrepreneurial spirit while being creative and building truly meaningful relationships throughout my community.

I strive to inform, delight and inspire by balancing content with design. I consider the details without losing sight of the big picture. I aim to see around corners while staying focused on the moment. I'm self directed but have over a decade of experience successfully working with teams. And while I've surely got bills to pay, I know it's my social responsibility to be selective about where I put my energy.
