Just two hours north of the city lies a secluded oasis of verdant lawns and grand old oaks with a stately mansion poised atop a gentle hill, keeping watch over the Hudson River. The rounded peaks of the Catskill mountains slope off in the distance and ketch boats tack this way and that along the river’s width.

A Private Estate in Germantown, NY is hands-down one of the best wedding venues in the Hudson Valley, not only for its 360 degree views or placement on the National Register of Historic Landmarks, but also its impressive variety of offerings. Three distinct areas comprise this former Livingston estate- There is the Riverside Grounds, a half-mile-long swath of groomed lawn, dotted by century-old white oaks, and anchored by their landmarked mansion facing the river (as shown in the photos above). On the hill behind the mansion lies the Barn Complex, fully modernized to host large receptions with as many as 225 guests. Between these two is the Carriage House, once home to horse grooms for the Livingston family, now housing groomsmen of another sort!

We had the honor of setting up our lawn games along the Riverside Grounds just in front of the 19th century mansion, together evoking the romanticism of a Gatsby-inspired soiree.

Its “piazza” (as the Livingstons called it) wraps around 3 sides of the house with looming archways that lend a grotto feel to either side. Isn’t this the perfect porch to gather around for a fabulous cocktail hour?! We certainly think so.
